Across its activities, UNDP encourages the protection of human rights and the empowerment of women.

Millennium Development Goals :

World leaders have committed to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), its prime objective being to reduce poverty by 2015. The UNDP network inks and coordinates the global and national efforts to reach these Goals.

In the Pacific:

The UNDP advocates change and connects The Pacific to the knowledge, experiences and resources to help people build better lives. There are two offices, one in Fiji which covers 10 countries: the Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, and one in Samoa, which covers the Cook Islands, Samoa, Niue and Tokelau.

UNDP’s work is undertaken as part of the Sub-regional Programme Document for the Pacific Island Countries and Territories (2013-2017): it aims to strengthen the links between local, regional and global interventions, which will strengthen the programme’s impact in the sub-region. This programme strategy strengthens the United Nations Development Assistance Framework for 2013-2017 in the Pacific. The UNDP will provide support in the fields of governance, inclusive growth and poverty reduction, gender equality, climate change, protection of the environment as well as disaster risk management and reduction.
