Investment Fiji and New Caledonia Trade & Invest (NCT&I) launched their first virtual trade fair, the "Fiji - New Caledonia E-Trade expo" on Wednesday April 7. Supported by the governments of New Caledonia and Fiji and France, this initiative aims to explore trade and economic opportunities between the two archipelagos.

Organized through the Caledonian delegation in Fiji with the support of the French Embassy in Suva, this first virtual trade show takes the form of a digital business-to-business platform for buyers and sellers from Fiji and New Caledonia.

"The e-commerce exhibition is a clear demonstration of the appetite and continuity of the business cooperation initiated by Investment Fiji and NCT&I in 2019, when Fiji hosted the first Fiji-New Caledonia Business Forum," said Rose Wete, New Caledonia's Official Representative to Fiji. For Craig Strong, CEO of Investment Fiji, the collaboration highlights the "strong potential for trade between businesses in each country" and offers Fijian businesses "the opportunity to connect to new markets and build a strategic relationship that benefits everyone."

Crise sanitaire oblige, Christopher Gygès s’est exprimé en vidéo lors de l’ouverture de la Trade Expo qui a eu lieu à Fiji, le 7 avril 2021.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, Christopher Gygès spoke via video during the opening of the Trade Expo which took place in Fiji on 07 April 2021.

 Opening up to Our Neighbors

This is a unique opportunity to showcase the products, services and companies of each territory in order to get to know each other better and to facilitate contacts between economic operators, whether public or private," explained Christopher Gygès, in charge of foreign trade, the economy and renewable energy. The Minister also expressed his wish to see New Caledonia "give priority to trade within the sub-region". He also thanked Investment Fiji and NCT&I, whose mission  is to offer comprehensive support to their members wishing to export and expand internationally.

An initiative that promises "more connections, exchanges and transactions once the pandemic is over" according to the Chargé d'Affaires of the French Embassy, René Consolo, and that will eventually "benefit all the inhabitants of the Pacific".
